The Ohio River is rising at
a rate of one half foot per day. Current elevation on the upper gauge
is 17.7 feet and will rise to 18.3 feet before Sunday. Flood stage is
23 feet on the Upper Gauge.
It is expected that the
river will rise even more due to upstream flow from last weekend’s
storm system and a new storm system entering the Ohio Valley this
afternoon (Thursday). Between 1 to 2 inches of rain in possible with
the new system and could cause more Ohio River flow as it moves
upstream.
MSD will begin erecting
floodwall street closures at 10th Street (10th
and Main Streets) and 27th Street (McAlpine Locks) on
Friday morning, February 18, at 9:00 A.M. MSD has already activated
Buchanon and Western Flood Pumping Stations.
Erection of these street
closures are precautionary at this time, but current river and weather
conditions warrant this preemptive step.
