FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 26, 2000

At approximately 8:00 A.M., this morning (Wednesday, April 26), MSD's regional wastewater treatment plant in Jeffersontown (10725 Old Taylorsville Road) began receiving an unidentified, white substance through its main sewer intake. The substance has continued to flow into the plant and is causing operation failures to the facility. The substance is now flowing through the plant and into Chenoweth Run Creek.

MSD investigators are currently following sewer lines upstream of the Jeffersontown plant to determine the cause and source of this illegal discharge. MSD operations personnel are taking every step in an effort to contain the material and minimize its impact on Chenoweth Run Creek.

When the source of this illegal discharge has been determined, this office will provide an immediate update.
