Flooding and drainage problems
will always be a potential hazard in Louisville and Jefferson County.
The Flood of 1997 is a recent reminder of the challenges this
community will always face.
With this in mind, MSD and
Project Impact (funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency)
have convened a local stakeholders group to develop a comprehensive
floodplain management plan. The plan will enhance current flood
management programs, and, at the same time develop new initiatives
that might better protect our community in the event of future floods.
The stakeholders group is
made up of individuals representing:
Emergency agencies;
Local government;
Local Businesses;
Flood and drainage experts;
Neighborhood association; and
Environmentalists.
The stakeholders meet on a
monthly basis. The next meeting will be held at the American Red
Cross, 510 East Chestnut Street, on Monday, May 22, from 3:30 to 4:30
P.M. Media and public are invited to attend.
