Ohio River Sweep 2000 is
scheduled for Saturday, June 17, from 9:00 A.M. to 2: P.M. Volunteers
from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois will collect trash and debris along
the banks of the Ohio and its tributaries.
MSD will conduct a formal
public announcement of this year's Sweep this morning (Monday), at
10:00 A.M., in Ashland Park. The park is located along the riverfront
in Clarksville, just west of the Clark Memorial Bridge. Event sponsors
will speak and details of the eleventh annual event will be presented
to the public. You are welcome to attend.
Each year over 700
volunteers in the metro Louisville area turn out for the Sweep. Last
year, over 45 tons of trash and debris was collected in this community
alone.
Each volunteer will receive
free work gloves, garbage bags and a commemorative T-shirt. Event
sponsor, Mr. Jack Medford, awards cash prizes to the two largest
volunteer groups.
