FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 6, 2001

Beginning Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at 9:00 A.M., MSD will narrow to one eastbound lane and one westbound lane of Shelbyville Road between Breckenridge Lane and St. Matthews Avenue. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately two weeks.

MSD's contractors will be working around the clock to replace a collapsed 15-inch trunk sewer that services hundreds of homes and businesses in the St. Matthews area. The trunk sewer, which was installed in 1937 has collapsed in several locations and must be replaced to prevent wastewater backups and interruptions in service. MSD television inspection crews discovered the collapsed section during routine inspections.

MSD suggests that motorists take alternate routes, if possible, especially during rush hours. An average of 64,000 vehicles pass through this section of roadway each day.
