The 12th annual Ohio River Sweep is set for Saturday, June 16, from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. More than 15,000 volunteers from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois will pick up trash and debris along 1,800 miles of riverbank. Six states and 72 counties are represented.

The Metropolitan Sewer District is the local coordinator, with sponsorship assistance from Operation Brightside, Jefferson County Public Works, the Louisville Water Company, the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Recruiting volunteers will officially begin at a news conference on Wednesday, May 30. The news conference will be held at 10:00 A.M. in Eva Bandman Park. Local dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor Steve Henry, Mayor David Armstrong and a representative of County Judge Executive Rebecca Jackson, will take part in the kick-off effort.
