Re: Flash
Flood Warning
Since
approximately 5:00 A.M. this morning, a line of thunderstorms have
tracked across the metro Louisville area. Hourly rain rates in
some locations have exceeded two inches per hour.
Regional
rain gauge totals as of 9:30 A.M. are:
Camp
Taylor area 1.05"
Shively 1.31"
South Louisville .85"
Downtown 2.25"
Valley Station 1.49"
Fern Creek 1.52"
Northeast Jefferson County 2.43"
Jeffersontown .67"
Hikes Point .58"
West Louisville 2.00"
Okolona 1.28"
Although the
storm system should clear the local area by mid-morning, the
potential for flash flooding at low lying areas and bridge
crossings will remain a threat for the next several hours. MSD
crews report local streams and drainage channels are filling
quickly. Some are already flowing out of their banks.
MSD has
issued radio flash flood warnings.
MSD
Maintenance and Operations crews are placing auxiliary pumps in
service to relieve overloaded sewer lines.
Most area
viaducts remain clear at this time.
No
residences or businesses have reported flooding, and most flooding
has been restricted to roads, yards, and low-lying areas near
streams and channels.
This report
will be updated as necessary.
