FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 26, 2002

Between 2 and 2.5 inches of rain has fallen in the metro Louisville area from 7:00 P.M. Monday through 8:00 A.M. Tuesday morning.

These heavy rains have fallen on saturated ground causing fast run-off to all local streams and creeks. Over 5 inches of rain has fallen in the local area during the past seven days. As of 6:00 A.M, MSD field personnel have found all major streams to be running at full capacity.

No flooding of buildings has been observed or reported. However, some rural roadways have been covered with water at low-lying areas.

MSD Maintenance and Operations crews have worked through the night to clear drainage channels and maintain service at MSD pump stations.

This rainfall will have no immediate impact on the Ohio River as river levels continue to drop. Rain from this system falling upstream from Louisville could cause the river to rise again later in the week.
