FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 5, 2003

The Louisville Metro area has received between 1 inch and 3.15 inches of rain since midnight. Showers and thunderstorms remain in the weather forecast for at least the next five days.

Today’s rainfall has saturated soils and most major and secondary streams, creeks and drainage channels are carrying more than normal flows, with swift currents. The possibility of additional heavy rains or prolonged periods of showers could cause local streams to fill beyond capacity and create the risk for flash flooding at lower elevations.

MSD will continue to keep both operations and maintenance crews in the field or on-call during night time hours to monitor and maximize the performance of the local sewer and drainage system.

Residents should be advised against driving or walking into standing or fast-flowing water, whether in streams, channels or viaducts.

MSD will remain on high alert for the duration of this wet weather period.
