Watershed Sweep Set For September 27th
The Beargrass
Creek Watershed Clean Sweep is set for Saturday, September 27,
from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Collection sites for volunteers
include:
- Cox’s Park
- Beargrass
Creek Park (Bowling Boulevard, behind Mall St. Matthews)
- Office Depot
(Breckenridge Lane)
- Stonybrook
Target (Taylorsville Road)
- St.
Pius/Seneca High School
- Butchertown
Greenway (Story Ave and Brownsboro Road)
- Bike Trail
behind Jim Porter’s
- Cherokee
Park Entrance (Lexington Road)
- Big Rock at
Cherokee Park
- Germantown
Baseball Park
- Schuff Lane
Bridge (Newburg Road)
Volunteers can
register at one of the collection sites at a check-in station on
Sweep Day. Each volunteer will be provided with plastic garbage bags
and gloves. Commemorative tee shirts will be handed out to the first
150 volunteers.
Volunteers are
especially needed at St. Pius Elementary School on Goldsmith Lane
and at Seneca High School where they will be planting container
trees and shrubs along the banks of the South Fork of the creek.
Please bring a shovel to the site if you would like to help plant
trees and shrubs.
Following the
Sweep, lunch will be provided to all the volunteers at Cox’s Park at
1 P.M.
The
Metropolitan Sewer District is the local coordinator of the event.
Local sponsorship assistance includes the Jefferson County Catholic
and Public Schools, Metro Parks, Kentucky Waterways Alliance and
Waste Management.
