FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 6, 2004

The Ohio River reached flood stage at 23 feet, on the Upper Gauge this morning. It was projected to crest at 24 feet on Wednesday morning.

The projection has been adjusted upward to 25.2 feet on Wednesday morning. This is 1.2 feet higher than the previous prediction.

In light of this upward adjustment, MSD will erect street closures at Tenth and Main Streets and 27th Street at McAlpine Locks beginning Wednesday Morning.

Currently, MSD has placed flood pumping stations in service at:

  • Buchanon Street (Butchertown)
  • Fourth Street (Downtown)
  • Western (West Louisville)
  • Upper Mill Creek (Pleasure Ridge)
  • Lower Mill Creek (Pleasure Ridge)
  • Riverport (Pleasure Ridge)
  • Pond Creek (Valley Station).

The Riverport and Pond Creek stations were brought on line on Monday night.

With projected river elevations, water will affect traffic along River Road, near Cox Park and the Fourth Street Wharf. Motorists are urged to use alternate routes.
