The Metropolitan
Sewer District will celebrate the dedication of the Robert J.
Starkey Pumping Plant on Monday, September 12. Opening ceremonies
include Mayor Jerry Abramson and Congresswoman Anne Northup and
will begin at 11:30 A.M. at the plant site, 147 Buchanon Street
and conclude with lunch and optional plant tours.
At a cost of $8
million, this facility replaces the Buchanon Street Pumping
Station, the oldest flood pumping plant in the city. The new
Starkey Plant completes the first phase of MSD’s program to
rehabilitate or replace the oldest flood pumping stations along
the Ohio River Flood Protection System. Nine other pumping plants
are over fifty years old. It is our goal to complete
rehabilitation of the system with the next 15 years.
