August 13, 2007 Board Meeting Summary Mr. Schardein reported on the Calendar of Events Mr. Bynum reported on the following: In June two LOJIC staff and a number of GIS users in our community participated in the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) GIS Conference in San Diego, which was attended this year by over 14,000 GIS professionals from around the world. A highlight at the close of the conference was recognition of the best uses of GIS in applications programming, spatial analysis, cartography and education. This year Doss High School GIS student, Josh Pile, received a Second Place cartography award for his Derby Marathon Course Map. LOJIC's 2007 Street Atlas, created by Jane Poole and Wade Drane, took a third place award for cartographic series. Mr. Bynum noted that our Atlas placed behind the National Road Atlas of Sweden and the National Atlas of Qatar. LOJIC's Street Centerline Editor, developed by Wade Drane and Julie Price, took the first place award for desktop GIS application programming. This was our community's third award recognizing GIS education in our public schools; our third award for cartographic production; and our fourth award for GIS applications programming. Mr. Bynum offered congratulations to all members of the LOJIC staff for this year's international recognition of our community's work in GIS technology. The following were approved:
