January 26, 2009 Board Meeting Summary

Mr. Schardein recognized Cheryl Jonap for implementing a process that would allow MSD employees to give vacation hours to a fellow employee facing a life crisis. In addition, Theresa Daly was recognized for the coordination efforts in organizing an employee luncheon and silent auction to benefit the employee.

Mr. Schardein displayed a sketch of the Second Street Floodgate closure and advised the Board that Ms. Coombs deserves the credit for heading up the project in which the plans are 90% complete and once in operation will result in a savings to MSD in maintenance and other related services.

Mr. Schardein called attention to the article in the Courier Journal on regionalizing wastewater treatment services and asked that each person take the time to read the article. Mr. Schardein noted that it is his recommendation that an independent, non-profit, public utility Board be established to oversee the utility composed of representatives from surrounding counties.
