2009 Ohio River Sweep Set for Saturday, June 20
The 20th annual Ohio River Sweep is set for Saturday, June 20, from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. More than 15,000 volunteers from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois will pick up trash and debris along 1,800 miles of riverbank. Six states and 72 counties are represented.

Preliminary Rate
Resolution ApprovedOn May 26th, the MSD Board approved a preliminary rate resolution which authorized a 6.5% increase in MSD rates. In addition, an Inflow and Infiltration Surcharge was established for individuals or entities who provide sewer service by extension of or connection to MSD's
separate sanitary sewer system. A copy of the proposed rate

MSD Surplus Equipment and Vehicle Auction
MSD Surplus Equipment and Vehicle Auction - MSD will be auctioning
off it surplus equipment and vehicles at a public auction on June
16, 2009 at 12:00 PM at Manheim Auto Auction (812) 283-0734 located
at 5425 Hwy. 31 Clarksville, IN 47129. Prospective bidders need
to register at Manheim Auto Auction anytime leading up to the day

2008 MSD Annual Report
Released
Our 2008 annual report takes a different approach than in the past
several years. Twelve years ago, MSD distributed a report summarizing
its first 50 years of service. The bulk of this year’s report furnishes
an update concerning what we have accomplished during the past 12
years and offers a brief recap of 2008 highlights.

MSD obtains EMS certification
from National Biosolids Partnership
 MSD’s
Morris Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant’s biosolids program is
the first in Kentucky to achieve certification by the National Biosolids
Partnership (NBP) for its Environmental Management System (EMS).
MSD's achievement recognizes that the agency has been independently
verified as having an effective biosolids management system for
reducing environmental impacts and for continually improving organizational

Available (Hard Copy or Download)
You can now download a
copy of the Second Edition of A How-To Guide for Building Your Own
Rain Garden ( ,
5.3M) or you can pick one up in the MSD
lobby at 700 West Liberty Street. Or contact MSD's Customer Relations
at (502) 587-0603 and provide our representative with your name
and address and we will mail you one. The 2nd edition includes an
expanded plant list plus a bit more information about understanding
urban stormwater and the role rain gardens play with infiltrating
runoff.

Citizen Discount Application" form, click here. If
you have any problems downloading the form or need other assistance,
please contact MSD Customer Relations at 587-0603 and they will
take your contact information over the phone and send you a form.
Once the Senior Citizen Discount Application has been submitted,
review and processing will be completed within 30-45 days and customers
will receive a status letter. If the application is approved, it
may take between 45-60 days for the discount to appear on the Louisville
Water Company bill.

MSD is involved in the business
of moving forward to alleviate sanitary sewer overflows
MSD
proposed the Interim Sanitary Sewer Discharge Plan (ISSDP)
on September 30, 2007, as a requirement of the 2005 Consent
Decree. Regulatory agencies endorsed this plan in July of
last year. The Carson-Ribble Sanitary Sewer Overflow
Mitigation Project is included in the ISSDP in order to
alleviate sanitary sewer overflows in the Hikes Lane and
Hikes Point areas. On June 22, the MSD Board authorized
Larry W. Doyle & Associates as the contractor for the
Carson-Ribble SSO Mitigation Project in the amount of
$121,648.

Manufacturers and suppliers that desire to have their products,
materials and supplies pre-approved for construction by MSD
must follow specific guidelines
and procedures.

Rain Barrel Sources
April 2009 - Rain Barrels are available for sale at the
Louisville Nature Center (LNC) located at 3745 Illiinois Avenue
(across from the Zoo). The cost of one 58 gallon barrel is $70
or for 2 or more barrels, $65 each. Call 458-1328 to buy, reserve
and arrange for pick up.
