Floyds Fork / North County Area The Floyds Fork Area Team and North County Area Team merged into one team in January, 2002. The merger of these two area teams provides an efficient level of service to the MSD customers. The Area Team's responsibility extends from the Ohio River to the northwest, Oldham County to the northeast, Shelby County to the east, Spencer County to the south, and by the cities of Indian Hills, St. Matthews, and Jeffersontown to the west. The northern half of the area is rapidly developing with both residential and commercial growth, while the southern half of the area remains primarily rural, with farms and low-density residential development. Providing sanitary sewer service to this area is primarily provided with three regional wastewater treatment plants (WTPs). The Jeffersontown WTP was upgraded in 1999. The Floyds Fork WTP was constructed as the first design/build wastewater treatment plant in Kentucky and was completed in 2001. MSD is expanding the Hite Creek WTP as a design/build project to add 6.6 million gallons per day capacity by 2005 to provide service to the existing unsewered homes in northeastern Jefferson County and southwestern Oldham County.
Much of the Floyds Fork/North County area is set in rolling terrain, with some areas in floodplain. There are many areas that experience flash flooding during very heavy rains. Erosion and siltation problems make up the bulk of drainage related customer service requests. New development of both residential and commercial properties will make good stormwater management practices a necessity. The Area Team goals are to improve the level of service to its current customers by improving the existing sewer systems and extending service to new customers in unsewered areas of the county. Both goals are key to improving water quality in the streams, creeks, and Ohio River to the east of downtown Louisville. Floyds Fork Area Team Contacts:
