The certification process verifies that minorities and women have majority interest in ownership, control and management of the business.

The first step is to attend MSD's certification orientation. Orientations are open to the public and are conducted at 700 West Liberty Street on the first Thursday of every month at 9:00 A.M. RSVP to June Embers (502-540-6350).

After the orientation, you will need to submit contact information for your company and then complete an application form with documentation supporting the following:

• Ownership (stock transactions, proof of capital infusion, personal investment)
• Control (minorities and women as a majority of directors, and with the credentials and expertise to make decisions affecting the company's core business)
• Day-to-day management (minority and/or women principals make financial decisions, prepare bids, procure goods and services, personnel, sales and other administrative and operational tasks).

As part of the process, MSD visits the applicant firm and interviews the firm's principal. Twice a month MSD's Certification Team meets to review and act on applications. The application review process takes about 60 days.
