| Lateral Extension of
Sanitary Sewers These are the forms and guidelines you will
need to complete a Lateral Extension of MSD’s sewer system into a previously
unserved area. You may click here ( In order to expedite your lateral extension project, MSD employs just-in-time methods that require submission of logical groupings of documents needed to conduct a full review and approval, at each stage of the lateral extension process. MSD will not receive or store documents that are not part of a full submittal. The
Lateral Extension Just in Time Submittals ( Upon delivery of each submittal, a preliminary screening will occur that will search for omissions of documents, and document information. If an omission exists, all documents will be returned to the submitter without further review. The LE process begins with MSD’s
determination that its system and/or treatment plant can accept the
additional flow generated by your development. The review of a proposed
development cannot be evaluated until this has occurred. Click for a

When you submit your Application to MSD you will simultaneously apply to the Kentucky Division of Water for their design approval. Be sure to complete all steps required by the state, including payment of KYDOW fees, and submit the state forms to MSD along with your MSD application and attachments.

When your design has been approved by MSD and the Kentucky Division of Water, you will begin the next step in the LE process.. At that time you will receive notice of approval from MSD along with MSD’s Lateral Extension Charge Worksheet. This work sheet calculates all applicable fees due MSD for Capacity, Recaptures, and Pump Station Telemetry. You will need to enter into a contract with
MSD agreeing that, if you build the system according to MSD's
specifications, MSD will extend the boundaries of the sewer district to
include this new territory and will assume all maintenance responsibilities
when the extension is officially accepted. This contract, that is required
by state law, must be signed by the both the developer and the owner of the
property. There are two versions of this contract available for use,
depending if the Owner/Developer are the same or different entities. The
