Data Management and Computerization IWIS is an Oracle database which provides a central location for housing data collected and tracked under the Pretreatment Program. Each permitted IU is assigned a unique ID number within IWIS. All information pertaining to the IU is linked with this ID number including outfalls. Self-monitoring and MSD compliance data are entered into IWIS under each IUs ID number. MSDs discharge limitations are also housed within IWIS and are used to track the compliance status of IUs and prompt enforcement actions. RMS collects treatment plant data on a quarterly basis. Each treatment plant is also assigned a unique ID number with lines to corresponding outfalls identified within IWIS. Treatment plant data collected by RMS is entered into IWIS upon receipt from MSDs laboratory. There are other aspects of the Pretreatment Program that also utilize IWIS for tracking data, such as, Inspection and Enforcement Actions, Permitting, Unusual Discharge Requests, Plan Review, Hazardous Materials Spill Response and Control Plans, Emergency Response Incidents and Sampling Events. The RMS is always searching and developing new and innovative uses for computers for the purpose of streamlining Pretreatment Program functions and making jobs easier. Currently, MSD/RMS has been evaluating ways to increase utilization of computers in the field the purpose of which is to make data collection more efficient by allowing staff to perform real-time data entry. |
