| How We Do It: The Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team-- responds to all hazardous materials spills in Jefferson County and implements the Hazardous Materials Spill Control Plan (HMPC) Program, to ensure compliance with the Hazardous Materials Ordinance. Industrial and Commercial sites that store hazardous materials are inspected regularly and monitored if needed to determine compliance with the HMO and the approved HMPC The Permitting and Pretreatment Compliance
Programs-- issue Industrial User Permits and monitor
Compliance with those Permits and with the Wastewater/Stormwater Discharge
Regulations (WDRs) Industrial and Commercial sites are inspected regularly, monitored as needed or required for the purpose of determining compliance with the WDRs, the site Permit, or State and Federal Regulations, and assisted in returning to compliance if a problem arises. IWD encourages Pollution Prevention (P2) through cooperation with the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center. Pretreatment of industrial discharges is required if P2 fails to resolve any continuing compliance problem. Sampling of industrial discharges is performed by IWD Sampling Program staff, and the samples are analyzed at the RMS Lab. |
