MSD Facility Tours
MSD offers general
interest, guided public tours of the Floyds Fork
Wastewater Treatment Plant (FFWTP), which is
the site of MSD's Ellen Swallow Richards Ecology Learning Center. It was designed to serve as an
educational facility and is wheelchair accessible. Tours last 1-1½ hours.
Tours of the
following other MSD treatment plants may be offered, based on special need
only:
- Morris
Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant, 4522 Algonquin Parkway,
Louisville, 40211. Kentucky's largest plant is designed to treat an
average of 120 million gallons/day. It provides secondary treatment,
using a high-purity oxygen, activated sludge process. This plant also
includes an 85-tons/day solids handling facility, that produces a dry,
pelletized soil amendment for beneficial reuse.
- West
County Wastewater Treatment Plant, 11601 Lower River Road,
Louisville, 40272, in the Valley Station area. The plant is designed
to treat an average of 22 million gallons/day, using an activated
sludge process. Because the plant is being expanded to 30 million
gallons/day, there is significant construction activity on site.
- Hite
Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, 5512 Hitt Lane, Louisville,
40241, in the northeastern Jefferson County, near the Oldham County
line. This plant is designed to treat an average of 4.4 million
gallons/day. It provides tertiary treatment, using an extended
aeration, activated sludge process, plus sand filtration. This plant
is being expanded to a design capacity of 6.0 million gallons/day.
- Cedar
Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, 8405 Cedar Creek Road,
Louisville, 40291. This plant is designed to treat an average of
7.5
million gallons/day. It provides tertiary treatment, using an extended
aeration, activated sludge process, in an oxidation ditch, plus sand
filtration.
- Jeffersontown
Wastewater Treatment Plant, 10725 Old Taylorsville Road,
Louisville, 40299. This plant is designed to treat an average of 4
million gallons/day, using an extended aeration process.
