MSD Facility Tours

MSD offers general interest, guided public tours of the Floyds Fork Wastewater Treatment Plant (FFWTP), which is the site of MSD's Ellen Swallow Richards Ecology Learning Center. It was designed to serve as an educational facility and is wheelchair accessible. Tours last 1-1½ hours.

Tours of the following other MSD treatment plants may be offered, based on special need only:

  1. Morris Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant, 4522 Algonquin Parkway, Louisville, 40211. Kentucky's largest plant is designed to treat an average of 120 million gallons/day. It provides secondary treatment, using a high-purity oxygen, activated sludge process. This plant also includes an 85-tons/day solids handling facility, that produces a dry, pelletized soil amendment for beneficial reuse.

  2. West County Wastewater Treatment Plant, 11601 Lower River Road, Louisville, 40272, in the Valley Station area. The plant is designed to treat an average of 22 million gallons/day, using an activated sludge process. Because the plant is being expanded to 30 million gallons/day, there is significant construction activity on site.

  3. Hite Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, 5512 Hitt Lane, Louisville, 40241, in the northeastern Jefferson County, near the Oldham County line. This plant is designed to treat an average of 4.4 million gallons/day. It provides tertiary treatment, using an extended aeration, activated sludge process, plus sand filtration. This plant is being expanded to a design capacity of 6.0 million gallons/day.

  4. Cedar Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, 8405 Cedar Creek Road, Louisville, 40291. This plant is designed to treat an average of 7.5 million gallons/day. It provides tertiary treatment, using an extended aeration, activated sludge process, in an oxidation ditch, plus sand filtration.

  5. Jeffersontown Wastewater Treatment Plant, 10725 Old Taylorsville Road, Louisville, 40299. This plant is designed to treat an average of 4 million gallons/day, using an extended aeration process.

Tours of these and other MSD locations, including the Main Office building and maintenance facilities, are also available. Contact MSD's Customer Service at 502-587-0603.
