Goose Creek WatershedThe Goose Creek Watershed has an area of approximately 18.5 square miles and contains 72.3 miles of streams. The Goose Creek watershed consists of two sub-watersheds - Goose Creek and Little Goose Creek. The table below shows the various land use percentages for the watershed.
Water Quality ImpactsThis watershed still has some good quality natural habitat; however, the area is undergoing intense development, and moderate water quality damage has occurred in some areas. High levels of nitrogen and phosphorus can be attributed to the use of lawn chemicals. About one-third of all fecal bacteria samples violate recreational standards. Also, large algal populations are common, depleting oxygen levels in the stream. The Goose Creek Watershed has fewer point source discharges than many of the watersheds within Jefferson County. The following table summarizes the point sources within the watershed.
MonitoringMSD has performed monitoring activities within the Goose Creek Watershed. StrategiesMSD is currently in the process of prioritizing Jefferson County watersheds for development of a water quality-based evaluation tool. A schedule has not been established for the development of a water quality tool for the Goose Creek Watershed. Project ImplementationMSD has undertaken two flow reduction projects within the Goose Creek Watershed. |
