MFWTP Headworks Phase2
| |||
| |||
Project Description
Addition of 3 bar screens and grit basins as follow up to Phase I, for complete replacement of the existing Headworks.
Need
The existing Headworks is over 40 years old and is still using the original bar screens and grit removal equipment. This equipment is well over 25 year normal service life and has become increasingly unreliable. During wet weather, high loadings frequently cause equipment breakdowns that require emergency maintenance to restore service. If equipment breakdowns become severe, increased wet weather bypasses can occur. Phase 2 brings the firm capacity of the Headworks to more than 340 MGD, allowing the full capacity of the primary sedimentation basins to be used for wet weather flow treatment. This is consistent with the strategy presented in the Combined Sewer Operational Plan. Improved reliability of facilities is an important part of staff plan.
