CSO 206 Areas 13, 14 & 15

Project Description
This small CSO sewershed was identified as a mini-separation project by the draft LTCP for Beargrass Creek. The method of eliminating this CSO basically encompasses separating the combined sewers in a nontradtional manner. It is proposed to provide separated sewers. The existing combined sewer would be transformed into a sanitary sewer by preventing wet weather flows from entering the system. This is a relatively small drainage basin where inflow might be redirected along curbs, through existing or new storm drains, and/or across overland flow features to the receiving waters. This approach would also require the disconnection of roof leaders and sump pumps.
Need
A component of MSD's Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Program is to identify and implement relatively inexpensive options that would allow for the elimination of CSO's. It may not always be cost-effective to provide some form of detention, retention, treatment or other CSO control facilities as in other areas as part of the LTCP. Factors to consider for potential CSO elimination include the following: CSO location in a peripheral or outer area of the combined sewer system; size of the service area; probable number of service connections, both sanitary and storm; and qualitative assessment of potential costs.
