Hairy Woodpecker

Length: 8.5-10.5 inches Song: Call is bold, grating, sharp peek
Wingspan: 15-17.5 inches Behavior: Eats insects in the wood and their larva.
Weight: 2.5 ounces Breeding: Monogamous. Stays with same mate for 4 years.
Habitat: forest, or open forest Population: Fairly Common
Migration: most don’t migrate Feeders: Sometimes eats sunflower seeds, nuts, fruits,peanutbutter, and suet.
Appearance: Black tail with three white feathers on each side, black wings with spotting, white underparts,l ong black bill, black nape, white face.
Interesting Facts: The Hairy Woodpecker and the Borthern Flicker are the two most wildly disputed woodpeckers in North America. This woodpecker is found in most forests. A similar woodpecker is the Downy Woodpecker.
