Mourning Dove

Length: 12 inches Song: ooah-woo-woo-woo
Wingspan: 17-19 inches Behavior: All males aggressively defend their territories
Weight: 4.3 ounces Breeding: They stay with one mate.
Habitat: They live in open forests, grasslands, forest edges, semi-deserts, bushes, and open landscapes. Population: They are increasing
Migration: Only some migrate Feeders: They eat sunflower seeds, millet, milo, and cracked corn.
Appearance: : It has a pinkish fawn head, black spot on lower cheek, pinkish fawn neck, brownish gray upper parts, black spots on upper wing, long point tail.
Interesting Facts: Mourning Doves suck up water instead of lifting there heads to swallow. Some Mourning Doves pair for life.
Conservation: This species is almost gone because more then 30 million brids get harvested each year when they should not be harvested.
