Treatment Plant Verbal Description Survey #19 - Post Zimpro shutdown The community odor survey was conducted on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 11, 2002. It was a partly sunny day with winds generally out of the south southwest at 1-10 mph. The temperature was about 85°F. For the five (5) ambient sampling locations (#1-#5) in the neighborhoods north and northeast of the treatment plant, along the Dumesnil St. corridor, the odor intensities were very faint to faint and the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) concentrations ranged from 1-18 parts per billion (ppb). A faint sludge odor was detected at stations #1 and #2 and a faint industrial chemical odor was detected at station #4. Non-detectable to very faint odors were detected at the three (3) sampling stations (#6-#8) in the neighborhoods east and southeast of the plant. There were no MFWTP or industrial chemical odors noticeable at these stations today. H2S levels were 5-8 ppb at these stations. For the three (3) sampling stations (#9-#11) located south and southwest of the treatment plant in the more industrial areas of the City, the industrial chemical odor level was noticeable at station #10 and faint at station #11. The H2S concentrations were 3-5 ppb. At the MFWTP, there were winds at 4-10 mph but generally out of the southwest. The odor intensity at the seven (7) sampling stations around the plant ranged from non-detectable to strong. H2S concentrations at these stations ranged from 5-88 ppb with the highest readings measured at station #17 where the average H2S was about 80 ppb. Both biotowers were in service and both scrubbers were in operation. The new stationary incinerator (PTO) appeared to be operating normally. Zimpro was out of service. Two dryers and RTO's were operating at the time of the survey. Odor levels at the plant were higher today than during the last few surveys. These appeared to be the result of an upset condition in the sludge holding tanks over the weekend and due to the some septic sludge in Primary Sedimentation tank #4 which had a drain pump that was out of service. This will be the last survey conducted as a part of this project. |
