Project WIN Advisory Information

Project WIN Advisory - Green

The “Green” Sewer Overflow Advisory Level indicates there are no known sanitary sewer or combined sewer overflows, and at least 48-hours have passed since the last “Red” or “Yellow” advisory level was activated. Generally, the weather is clear and there is no significant rain event in the Louisville Metro area. This is the default condition.

Project WIN Advisory - Yellow

The “Yellow” Sewer Overflow Advisory Level indicates the following condition(s): 1) There is a dry-weather overflow of a significant amount at a known location(s) in the Louisville Metro area; 2) There is a dry weather bypass event at a treatment plant site. Any of these conditions prompt an automated email notification to those who signup in the Project WIN Email Notification System. The email will include the words “MSD-03: MM\DD\YY“ in the subject line. After 48-hours from the initial notification, an email will be sent that the site-specific discharge has been mediated. The Sewer Overflow Advisory Level will in most cases, return to the “Green” level. If significant rainfall occurs while under a “Yellow” advisory, a “Red” advisory will replace it.

Project WIN Advisory - Red

The “Red” Sewer Overflow Advisory Level indicates enough rainfall in the Louisville Metro area that there may be wet-weather sanitary or combined sewer overflows. This condition will trigger an email sent to those signed up in the Project WIN Email Notification System. The email will include the words “MSD Sewer Overflow Advisory MSD 01: Wet Weather Overflows” in the subject line. An email will be sent out every 24-hours while it is raining. These additional notifications will serve as a reminder to avoid contact with water in the Ohio River, streams, drainage ditches and standing water until 48-hours after the rain has stopped. After 48-hours without rain an email will be sent indicating that conditions have returned to normal and the Sewer Overflow Advisory Level will in most cases, return to the “Green” level.
